Starbucks calories: drinks, Frappuccinos and bakery
Published on October 28, 2026 · By the Ember team
In short
A Grande Caffè Latte has 151 kcal with semi-skimmed milk, the figure Starbucks shows in France, Germany and the UK. The same latte is 124 kcal as a Tall and 204 kcal as a Venti.
Sweet drinks climb fast: as a Grande, 214 kcal for a Caramel Macchiato, 259 kcal for a Pumpkin Spice Latte with whipped cream and 345 kcal for a White Chocolate Mocha. An Americano stays at 11 kcal.
A Grande Frappuccino has 283 to 378 kcal depending on the flavour, with 33 to 44 g of sugars. As a Venti, the Java Chip reaches 448 kcal.
The easiest levers: milk (82 to 200 kcal for a Grande latte), whipped cream (54 kcal) and syrups (about 15 kcal per pump). A bakery item adds 230 kcal (croissant) to 572 kcal (chocolate muffin).
Starbucks drink calories: the Tall, Grande, Venti table
At Starbucks, the same drink can double in calories depending on the size. To answer precisely, we used the most complete official sheet published in Europe: the Starbucks UK nutrition guide for autumn 2026 (version of 18 September 2026). It lists every drink in every size and with every milk. The values below are for the standard recipe, with semi-skimmed milk, and with whipped cream when the drink comes with it.
These figures also hold in France and Germany. The Grande Caffè Latte shows 151 kcal on Starbucks France’s and Starbucks Germany’s websites and in the UK guide. The Cappuccino (130 kcal), the Caramel Macchiato (214 kcal) and the White Chocolate Mocha (345 kcal) have exactly the same value in Germany. A few drinks vary slightly from one country to another, such as the Pumpkin Spice Latte (259 kcal in the UK, 266 kcal in Germany). Starbucks Spain’s sheet only covers food, and we found no sheet published by Starbucks in Norway: this table remains the best guide.
The table shows a simple rule: a milky coffee without syrup, like a latte or a cappuccino, stays under 210 kcal even as a Venti. As soon as a sauce, a syrup or whipped cream is added, most Grande drinks go over 200 kcal, and the richest come close to 350 kcal.
| Drink (semi-skimmed milk) | Tall (kcal) | Grande (kcal) | Venti (kcal) | Sugars (Grande) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Americano | 7 | 11 | 14 | 0.1 g |
| Iced Caffè Latte | 83 | 128 | 130 | 11.9 g |
| Cappuccino | 103 | 130 | 169 | 12.1 g |
| Latte Macchiato | 113 | 147 | 194 | 13.7 g |
| Caffè Latte | 124 | 151 | 204 | 14.2 g |
| Matcha Latte (unsweetened) | 134 | 161 | 217 | 15.2 g |
| Chai Tea Latte | 129 | 181 | 227 | 29.3 g |
| Iced Caramel Macchiato | 146 | 201 | 221 | 26.6 g |
| Caramel Macchiato | 167 | 214 | 273 | 27.6 g |
| Pumpkin Spice Latte (whipped cream) | 205 | 259 | 331 | 31.4 g |
| Caffè Mocha (whipped cream) | 228 | 281 | 358 | 30.1 g |
| Classic Hot Chocolate (whipped cream) | 246 | 309 | 382 | 34 g |
| White Chocolate Mocha (whipped cream) | 265 | 345 | 417 | 45.4 g |
Source: Starbucks UK, autumn 2026 beverage nutrition guide (version 18/09/26), standard recipe with semi-skimmed milk. Sugars include the lactose from milk. The Flat White only comes as a Short: 59 kcal with semi-skimmed milk, 76 kcal with whole milk.
For an everyday hot drink, a latte or a cappuccino remains the best choice: about 130 to 150 kcal as a Grande, with no added sugar and 9 to 11 g of protein from the milk.
Sizes and milks: what really changes the calories
Starbucks size names blur the usual landmarks. The Tall is the small size (12 oz, about 355 ml), the Grande the medium (16 oz, about 473 ml) and the Venti the large (20 oz, about 591 ml) for hot drinks. The Short (8 oz) still exists for some hot drinks. Going from Tall to Venti usually multiplies the calories by about 1.6, because the milk, sauce and syrup all grow with the cup.
Milk is the second lever, and it is often underestimated. On a Grande latte, the gap runs from 82 kcal with almond drink to 200 kcal with whole milk. Oat drink, often seen as light, is actually one of the most calorific options (178 kcal), just behind whole milk. Skimmed milk keeps all the protein of milk for 115 kcal, while almond, oat and coconut drinks provide very little.
Watch iced drinks too: ice takes up room in the cup. A Venti Iced Latte (130 kcal) holds barely more than a Grande (128 kcal), and less than a hot Grande latte (151 kcal).
| Grande Caffè Latte | Calories | Protein | Sugars |
|---|---|---|---|
| Almond drink | 82 kcal | 1.9 g | 7.5 g |
| Skimmed milk | 115 kcal | 10.9 g | 14.5 g |
| Soya drink | 126 kcal | 9.8 g | 7.2 g |
| Coconut drink | 139 kcal | 3.4 g | 10.6 g |
| Semi-skimmed milk (standard) | 151 kcal | 10.9 g | 14.2 g |
| Oat drink | 178 kcal | 2.7 g | 9.7 g |
| Whole milk | 200 kcal | 10.6 g | 13.9 g |
Source: Starbucks UK, autumn 2026 beverage nutrition guide. Volumes in ml: Ember’s calculation from the sizes in ounces shown by Starbucks (Tall 12 oz, Grande 16 oz, Venti 20 oz).
Rule of thumb: switching a Grande latte from whole milk to skimmed milk saves 85 kcal without losing any protein; switching to soya saves 74 kcal and keeps almost as much protein.
Frappuccino calories: from Coffee to Java Chip
The Frappuccino is the most calorific drink on the menu, because it stacks a sweet base, milk, often a sauce and nearly always whipped cream. As a Grande, the six core Frappuccinos on the UK sheet range from 283 kcal for the Coffee Frappuccino to 378 kcal for the Java Chip, which adds chocolate chips. As a Venti, the Java Chip reaches 448 kcal, the equivalent of a light meal.
Sugar tells an even clearer story. A Grande Caramel Frappuccino contains 43.9 g of sugars. The World Health Organization recommends keeping free sugars below 10% of energy intake, and ideally below 5%. On 2,000 kcal a day, that is 50 g, and 25 g for the ideal target. Part of a Frappuccino’s sugars comes from the milk, but most comes from the base, the syrup and the sauce. To understand the difference, see our guide to added sugar.
| Frappuccino (semi-skimmed, whipped cream) | Tall (kcal) | Grande (kcal) | Venti (kcal) | Sugars (Grande) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coffee Frappuccino | 212 | 283 | 312 | 33 g |
| Vanilla Cream Frappuccino | 212 | 290 | 329 | 33.7 g |
| Strawberries & Cream Frappuccino | 229 | 310 | 342 | 37.6 g |
| Mocha Frappuccino | 238 | 314 | 360 | 37.7 g |
| Caramel Frappuccino | 270 | 346 | 387 | 43.9 g |
| Java Chip Frappuccino | 275 | 378 | 448 | 43.2 g |
Source: Starbucks UK, autumn 2026 beverage nutrition guide, standard recipe with semi-skimmed milk and whipped cream. In Germany, Starbucks shows 362 kcal for a Grande Caramel Frappuccino and 393 kcal for the Java Chip. Sugar thresholds: WHO (2015), Ember’s calculation for 2,000 kcal.
If a Frappuccino is your treat, order it as a Tall with no whipped cream: you save more than 120 kcal compared with a Grande with whipped cream.
Syrups, sauces and whipped cream: the calories of extras
Customisation is at the heart of Starbucks, and every extra counts. One pump of vanilla, caramel or hazelnut syrup adds 14 to 15 kcal and about 3.5 g of sugar. That sounds small, but a flavoured drink contains several pumps, and any extra pump you ask for comes on top of the recipe. Sugar-free syrups barely count: 1 kcal per pump.
Sauces are denser than syrups. One pump of mocha sauce is 29 kcal, a caramel drizzle 21 kcal. Whipped cream, finally, adds 54 kcal on a Tall or Grande and 58 kcal on a Venti, with 5.6 g of fat. It is the easiest extra to drop: without whipped cream, a Grande Pumpkin Spice Latte goes from about 259 to 205 kcal.
| Extra | Portion | Calories |
|---|---|---|
| Sugar-free vanilla syrup | 1 pump | 1 kcal |
| Hazelnut syrup | 1 pump | 14 kcal |
| Vanilla syrup | 1 pump | 14 kcal |
| Caramel syrup | 1 pump | 15 kcal |
| Classic (simple sugar) syrup | 1 pump | 19 kcal |
| Caramel drizzle | 1 pump | 21 kcal |
| Mocha sauce | 1 pump | 29 kcal |
| Whipped cream | Tall or Grande | 54 kcal |
| Whipped cream | Venti | 58 kcal |

The winning trio to lighten a drink without changing it: no whipped cream, one pump of syrup less, and a lighter milk.
Calories in Starbucks bakery items and snacks
The bakery item often weighs more than the drink. In the UK guide, the all-butter croissant remains the most reasonable at 230 kcal, close to a bakery croissant (see our guide to croissant calories). The pain au chocolat climbs to 314 kcal, the almond croissant to 341 kcal.
Muffins, loaf cakes and big cookies sit well above: 485 kcal for the blueberry muffin, 572 kcal for the chocolate muffin and 470 kcal for the double chocolate cookie. In Spain, Starbucks’ sheet gives 519 kcal for the Chocolate Chunk cookie and up to 702 kcal for a slice of carrot cake. Recipes vary between countries, but the order of magnitude stays the same.
For a higher-protein snack, Egg Bites provide 13 g of protein for 162 to 177 kcal, a third of the calories of a muffin.
| Item | Sheet | Calories | Protein |
|---|---|---|---|
| Egg White Bites (three cheese, red pepper) | UK | 162 kcal | 13 g |
| Egg Bites with three cheese and ham | UK | 177 kcal | 13 g |
| All-butter croissant | UK | 230 kcal | 4.9 g |
| Chocolate Brownie | Germany | 308 kcal | 3.6 g |
| Pain au chocolat | UK | 314 kcal | 6.2 g |
| Almond croissant | UK | 341 kcal | 6.6 g |
| Lemon Loaf Cake | UK | 367 kcal | 5.2 g |
| Ham and cheese croissant | UK | 385 kcal | 15 g |
| Double chocolate cookie | UK | 470 kcal | 7.1 g |
| Cinnamon Bun | UK | 471 kcal | 9.7 g |
| Blueberry muffin | UK | 485 kcal | 6.4 g |
| Chocolate Chunk cookie | Spain | 519 kcal | 7.7 g |
| Chocolate muffin | Spain | 557 kcal | 7.6 g |
| Chocolate muffin | UK | 572 kcal | 7.5 g |
| Carrot cake (slice) | Spain | 702 kcal | 7.5 g |

If you have a bakery item, keep the drink simple: a latte and a croissant come to 381 kcal, a Frappuccino and a chocolate muffin to nearly 920.
Ordering light at Starbucks: four orders compared
To see the effect of your choices, we worked out four typical orders from the official sheets. The gap is striking: the richest order has almost three times the calories of the lightest, with half the protein.
To put these totals in context, the European Union uses a reference intake of 2,000 kcal a day for an adult. A Grande Caramel Frappuccino with a chocolate muffin already accounts for almost half of it. And habit matters as much as the occasion: a Grande Caramel Macchiato every weekday adds up to 1,070 kcal over five days, the equivalent of one extra full meal.
- Pick the base before the size
A Grande latte (151 kcal) costs less than a Tall White Chocolate Mocha (265 kcal). Switching from a Grande White Chocolate Mocha to a Grande latte saves 194 kcal.
- Ask for no whipped cream
That is 54 to 58 kcal less, without changing the taste of the drink itself.
- Cut back the syrup
One or two pumps fewer, or a sugar-free syrup, remove 14 to 30 kcal and 3.5 to 7 g of sugar.
- Go for protein
The Grande Caramel Protein Latte provides 24 g of protein for 209 kcal. To see what you need, read our guide on how much protein per day.
| Order | Contents | Calories | Protein |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light and high-protein | Grande Caffè Latte + Egg White Bites | 313 kcal | 24 g |
| Classic | Grande Caramel Macchiato + all-butter croissant | 444 kcal | 16 g |
| Indulgent | Venti White Chocolate Mocha + double chocolate cookie | 887 kcal | 21 g |
| Very indulgent | Grande Caramel Frappuccino + chocolate muffin | 918 kcal | 13 g |
Ember’s calculations from the Starbucks UK nutrition guides (drinks and food, autumn 2026), standard recipes with semi-skimmed milk. 2,000 kcal reference intake: Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.
The simplest approach is to log your drink as you order it. With Ember, you snap your cup or describe it in one sentence (“Grande oat latte, no syrup”): the calories and macros are added to your day.
