BitePal reviews, cost and how to cancel
What the raccoon app does, what is free, how much the subscription costs in 2026 and how to stop it without surprises.
BitePal in 2026: free or paid, what reviews say and how to cancel
Published October 28, 2026 · By the Ember team
In short
BitePal costs nothing to download, but some of its features, called "PRO Features", require an auto-renewing subscription, according to its Terms of Use.
On the US App Store, the weekly plan costs $3.99 to $5.99 and annual plans range from $19.99 to $59.99 (checked October 28, 2026). Paid weekly for a full year, the subscription adds up to $207.48.
Users rate it 4.7 out of 5 on the US App Store (56,858 ratings), 4.6 out of 5 on Google Play (more than 448,000 ratings) and 4.6 on Trustpilot (3,622 reviews).
To cancel, go through your iPhone or Google Play subscriptions, or through the app for a web purchase: deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
BitePal is published by Reface Lithuania UAB, a Lithuanian company, and is only available in English on the App Store. This guide is published by Ember, a competing app.
What is BitePal?
A raccoon that gets hungry when you forget to log your lunch: that is the idea that made BitePal known. The app presents itself as a "gamified" food tracker. You take a photo of your plate, an AI estimates what is on it and gives the meal a nutrition score, and your virtual pet reacts to your choices. You can dress it up with outfits and accessories, including seasonal looks such as the Halloween event shown on the App Store listing in October 2026.
Behind the raccoon sits a fairly classic calorie counter. The App Store listing describes a dashboard with calories, nutrients and weight progress, water tracking, fasting windows with reminders and weekly meal plans. Release notes added food database search and voice logging in August 2026, then barcode and nutrition label scanning in October 2026.

Based on BitePal’s App Store and Google Play listings, its Help Center and its Terms of Use, checked on October 28, 2026.
One thing to know before downloading: on the five App Store storefronts we checked (France, United States, Spain, Germany, Norway), the only language listed for the app is English, even where the listing title is translated.
Is BitePal free?
Free to download, only partly free to use. The store listings present BitePal as free with in-app purchases, and its Terms of Use state that certain features, called "PRO Features", require a subscription. BitePal does not, however, publish an exact list of what stays free and what moves to PRO, or a number of free photo scans. We have not guessed it here: the most reliable way to know is to install the app and read the subscription screen before you confirm anything.
Three details deserve your attention. First, the Terms of Use mention trials that convert into a paid subscription, so note the end date if you start one. Second, the Help Center lists add-ons sold separately, such as a Custom Meal Plan or a Vitamin Guide, billed on top of the main subscription. Third, the App Store lists packs of "Bitecoins" sold individually, starting at $0.99.
| Item | What BitePal says | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Download | Free, with in-app purchases | App Store, Google Play |
| PRO Features | Subscribers only | Terms of Use |
| Detailed free vs PRO list | Not published | No official page |
| Trial | Can convert into a paid subscription | Terms of Use |
| Add-ons | Custom Meal Plan, Vitamin Guide, billed separately | Help Center |

If you are testing BitePal with no plan to pay, check your phone’s subscriptions to make sure no trial is running: it is the simplest way to avoid an unexpected charge.
How much does BitePal cost in 2026?
BitePal does not publish a price list on its website. Its Help Center says subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing cycle, and that the plan, price and renewal date are visible in the subscriptions of your Apple or Google account. The App Store listings still show in-app purchase prices for each country. On Google Play, those prices are not shown on the public listing.
| App Store | Weekly | Annual | Other purchases |
|---|---|---|---|
| France | €3.99 | €22.99 to €69.99 | Bitecoins: €0.99 |
| United States | $3.99 to $5.99 | $19.99 to $59.99 | Monthly: $9.99; Bitecoins: $0.99 |
| Spain | €3.99 | €22.99 to €69.99 | Bitecoins: €0.99 |
| Germany | €3.99 | €22.99 to €69.99 | Bitecoins: €0.99 and €5.99 |
| Norway | 49 kr to 59 kr | 249 kr to 799 kr | Monthly: 129 kr; Bitecoins: 9 kr and 59 kr |
BitePal App Store listings checked on October 28, 2026. The App Store shows 10 in-app purchases at most, and several annual plans at different prices exist side by side. The price actually offered to you appears in the app before purchase.
The weekly plan feels painless, but do the math: $3.99 a week for a year comes to $207.48 (Ember calculation: 3.99 × 52), more than three times the most expensive annual plan listed in the US. If you are comparing several photo-tracking apps, our Cal AI review covers its pricing too.
What do BitePal reviews say?
Ratings are good everywhere, with a clear gap between the United States and Europe. On the US App Store, BitePal reaches 4.7 out of 5 from almost 57,000 ratings; in France, Spain and Germany it drops to 4.4.
- Strengths
The virtual pet gives you a concrete reason to log every meal, a point that comes up in several reviews featured on the App Store. Logging is quick (photo, text, voice, barcode), and the app keeps calories, water, fasting and weight in one place.
- Limits
Among the reviews featured on the US listing, two users report calorie estimates far from the values published by the brands, one too high and one too low. The app is English only, and on Apple devices it is built for iPhone only.
| Platform | Rating | Ratings or reviews |
|---|---|---|
| App Store France | 4.4 / 5 | 7,489 |
| App Store United States | 4.7 / 5 | 56,858 |
| App Store Spain | 4.4 / 5 | 7,230 |
| App Store Germany | 4.4 / 5 | 4,650 |
| App Store Norway | 4.5 / 5 | 606 |
| Google Play (viewed from the US) | 4.6 / 5 | 448,761 |
| Trustpilot | 4.6 / 5 | 3,622 |
Ratings checked on October 28, 2026. Google Play also shows more than 5 million downloads. On Trustpilot, the profile has been claimed by the company since April 2026; 81% of reviews give 5 stars and 6% give 1 star.
A photo estimate is still an estimate, whatever the app: cooking oils, sauces and hidden portions shift the result. Our guide on photo calorie counting accuracy explains how to correct those gaps.
How do you cancel a BitePal subscription?
This is the most common question, and the answer depends on where you paid. One rule applies everywhere: deleting the app does not stop the charges. BitePal says so in its Help Center and its Terms of Use, and Google confirms it for Android. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period: you keep access until then, with no refund for the time left.
- On iPhone or iPad
Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Choose BitePal, tap Cancel Subscription and confirm. According to Apple Support, if there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red, the subscription is already cancelled.
- On Android
Open Google Play with the account you used to pay, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Choose BitePal, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.
- After a web purchase
If you paid on the website or from an ad, the Help Center tells you to go through the app: Settings, then Manage Subscription, then Cancel Subscription. The Terms of Use also allow cancelling by email at hi@bitepal.app.
Can’t find BitePal with Apple or Google? The Help Center gives three reasons: a different Apple ID or Google account, a purchase made on the web, or a subscription that has already expired. It also mentions lifetime plans, which do not appear in the subscriptions list.
Refunds and customer service
Cancelling does not refund anything: it only prevents the next renewal. If you want money back, BitePal’s deadlines are short and depend on where you bought. For the App Store, BitePal states that it has no control over refunds: you request one at reportaproblem.apple.com and Apple decides.
| Purchase | Deadline given by BitePal | Where to ask |
|---|---|---|
| App Store | 48 hours after purchase (two calendar days in the Terms) | reportaproblem.apple.com |
| Google Play | 48 hours after purchase | Google Play refund page, with possible help from BitePal |
| Web, first payment | 30 days, before the current period ends | hi@bitepal.app |
| Renewal | 48 hours after the charge, with no use since | hi@bitepal.app |
Based on BitePal’s Help Center and Terms of Use, checked on October 28, 2026. A renewal refund only covers the most recent payment and is granted once per account.
For anything else, customer service is reachable by email at hi@bitepal.app: BitePal asks you to describe the issue briefly and attach screenshots or your invoice. Its Terms state that forgetting that a trial becomes paid, or that a subscription renews, does not justify a renewal refund, so cancel as soon as you decide to stop.
Is BitePal worth it?
BitePal is mostly aimed at people who give up on classic calorie counters after a week. The raccoon makes tracking more playful and the photo saves you from weighing every ingredient. If that game side motivates you, start with the free version to see whether the habit sticks before paying, then pick a plan whose length you know.
If you mainly want reliable numbers or an app in your own language, compare before subscribing. Our comparison of the best calorie counter apps reviews the main options. Ember, the app that publishes this guide, estimates calories and macros from a photo or a sentence, and includes up to two AI analyses a day in its free version.
Whatever you choose, write down your renewal date on the day you subscribe: it prevents most bad surprises.
